Most of your programs should work after you transfer the associated files and registry entries to your new computer. Kindly note that some of your software applications cannot be transferred with the help of the "PC Mover". That is the result of specific settings within the programs themselves, licensing requirements for one.
You would need to reinstall the program manually or contact the program manufacturer for assistance.
What are the known causes:
"PC Mover" is capable of determining whether your programs are compatible with the new operating system or not. Any applications found incompatible will not be transferred.
As an end-user, you have the opportunity to review "PC Mover's" report and apply changes. However, we advise against it. The applications flagged as problematic should not be transferred.
The bulk of the issues, nowadays, involve old XP programs not compatible with the 64-bit operating systems.
Here is a list of programs you will have problems transferring:
- Core Windows applications, services, data - you cannot migrate information regarding Microsoft Windows themselves, for example Active Directory, IIS, etc.
- The program you are transferring needs updated drivers - the software you are moving may require a new driver to work on the operating system, as your new computer has a different hardware setup. Please reinstall the program manually, that would allow the software to detect its new driver during the installation.
- The drivers associated with the program cannot be transferred - some system utility programs (antivirus applications for example) need a manual reinstall, specifically associated drivers cannot be transferred with the help of the "PC Mover".
- The program is copyright protected - a small number of programs are copyright protected, which means that the application starts a verification process every time your PC loads up and checks if the software hasn't been moved to another computer system. Such programs need to be reinstalled and reactivated manually, which will authenticate your new computer on the server of the developer.
NOTE: The rule applies to files containing DRM (Digital Rights Management) information, most commonly music and multimedia files. - The program is incompatible with the new operating system - please note that software transfer may fail if the application in question is not compatible with your new operating system.
- The program contains a hardware fingerprint - specific programs are dependent on hardware linked to your source computer. You cannot transfer such programs unless the same equipment is installed on your PC as well.
Please keep in mind that software developers are extremely guarded when it comes to upholding their licensing policies, and it is not uncommon that some of the transferred programs will require renewed registration or activation. Also, some of the applications may require a new license (activation) key as they may have been designed for single computer use.
IMPORTANT: It is the end-users responsibility to know and uphold the "Terms and Conditions" of the software developer, before attempting to transfer it with the help of the "PC Mover".
